WALESBY SOCIAL CLUB — at Walesby Village Hall.
====================
2nd December 2021.

At last night’s Club AGM, it was decided that the opening evenings for the club will remain on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

24th September 2021.

A message from Ossie Fernyhough.

Hello everyone,

As it has been a while since our last update, we thought we would let you know how the Club has been doing. As previously mentioned, we are using a new brewery to supply our beer and I have to say it has gone down really well by all who have tried it. We now have a new selection of lagers, ciders and non-alcoholic wines and of course coffee. There have been some new faces and a few ones we haven’t seen for a while, which is great news! So, if you are one of the ones who have not called in for a while why not pop in, you know you want to really.

PLEASE NOTE: As from the 3rd of October the opening times for Wednesdays and Saturdays will change to 7:30pm-10:00pm
=====================
30th July 2021.

From Ossie Fernyhough:

It’s been great to see so many members and new faces turning up on club nights, so just to remind everyone whats what please note the following:

Just to confirm Walesby Club is open on Wednesday and Saturday nights from 7:00pm to 10:pm.

As you will be aware the Covid rules have been relaxed by the Government and there seems to be some confusion as to what is and is not allowed.

At the Club we still adhere to our Covid procedures which asks members to wear a mask when entering and moving around the building or until they take a seat at a table. We have table service and you pay your tab when you leave, but all other procedures are explained when you arrive.

The Club Committee decided to continue practicing good safety to keep our members safe.

23rd May 2021.

From Ossie Fernyhough:

Here is the news I know all have been anticipating, Walesby Club is reopening. Our opening night is this coming Saturday, that’s right the 29th, Bank Holiday weekend so no excuses for not attending. To help to celebrate this great occasion all drinks will be half the usual price.

In other Club news, every paid up member of 19/20 will have their membership extended until the end of this year (all those who have paid for 20/21 will have their membership carried over to 21/22) and if you have recently moved into the village or you are an existing non-member resident you too can receive free membership for the rest of this year, just come along, say hello, and sign up. It’s a no-brainer.

There is a change to the days we will open: we will open again Saturday nights but change from Tuesday night to Wednesday; and from now the summer period opening hours will be 7.00pm-10pm.

Please come along and help create a strong village community, after all good neighbours become good friends (don’t sing it, too late).

As Covid restrictions are still active, contact details will need to be taken and certain safety procedures adhered to.

7th April 2021.

A message from Ozzie Fernyhough:

Hello Walesby Club members and prospective members. The Club committee decided due to the prospect of sitting outside (Covid restrictions) in April’s inclement weather, we would postpone opening until we can officially and safely use the village hall.

Keep safe.

12th December 2020.

From Peter Braithwaite:

Many of you will already know that both Mike and Ann-Marie Whitaker and Geoff and Jackie Freeman have agreed sales of their houses in Walesby and will be moving to pastures new.

Mike and Jackie have been stalwarts of both the Village Hall and Social Club for many years – Mike as Chairman of the Village Hall and Treasurer of the Social Club and Jackie as Secretary of both of them in which role she has managed Mike and the rest of us with good humour and great efficiency. We are extremely sorry that both of them have resigned due to their intended moves.

Ann-Marie has used her extensive artistic talents to design and produce costumes, props and scenery for our stage productions as well as taking leading roles in many of them. Geoff has looked after the bar and cellar (including ensuring the quality of the draft beer is up to scratch!), as well as using his video and sound recording equipment to support stage productions and other functions. Also Jackie and Geoff have together acted as unofficial (and unpaid) caretakers . What will we do without them?

We will miss all of them and it is a great pity that because of Covid we cannot hold a fitting event to say goodbye. However they will leave with our heartfelt thanks for all they have contributed to the village while they have lived here and our very best wishes for their future health and happiness.

Following the resignations of Mike and Jackie the new officers are –

Village Hall:
Chairman — Peter Braithwaite
Secretary — Sue Fernyhough
Treasurer — Trish Braithwaite
Booking Secretary — Joe Magrin

Social Club:
Chairman — Ossie Fernyhough
Secretary — Sally Wilson
Treasurer — Kay Strawson
Membership Secretary — Jeanette Ashton

Maddie Munro has kindly agreed to join the Village Hall Committee and has been co-opted on to it.

A message from Jeanette:

Dear Village Hall club members

I hope you are all keeping well in these strange times and enjoying the countryside and community support of Walesby. We have sorely missed our regular social events at the village hall, but are grateful to members of the bar committee for providing a regular opportunity for some company and a few drinks in a safe environment in recent months.

November is traditionally the month for renewing annual club membership subscriptions, so I hope you will continue to contribute. Electricity bills, cleaning and insurance still need to be paid. During lockdown I am happy for you to post correct payments into my letter box with names, or you can wait until we are free to mingle again (£2 per adult). Many thanks.

I personally am looking forward to future get togethers: presentations, quizzes, music, dancing, dressing up and delicious home cooking, as well as to catch up with those residents that I haven’t yet met on local walks.

Stay safe and I hope to see you soon.

With best wishes

Jeanette (Membership Secretary), 4 The Row

A message from Ossie:

‘Pumpkin Head’ night was well attended and I would like to thank everyone who got into the spirit (did you see what I did there) of the evening.

As you will be aware from this Thursday we will be back in lock down, as a result of that Walesby Club will close until further notice. Not so fast kiddo, the club will be open this Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th so if you want to have one last chance for a get together shift your butt off that seat and get along.

We open at 7.00pm and close at 10.00pm.

CALLING ALL WALESBY CLUB MEMBERS

You may or may not be aware that our long serving secretary is moving on to pastures new, which leaves us with an important position to fill. If you are willing to take up this essential and valued position, for no reward and very little thanks, you are the person we are looking for. On the plus side you will join a group of fairly sane people who want to create a place where members can come together and enjoy each others company in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Now, don’t be shy and hide your light under a bushel, we are waiting to hear from you.

Please contact joe@walesbyvillage.uk and he will forward your message or you could pop into the club and see us.
